Blast from the Past

If there's one thing I love, it's hearing theme songs from cartoons that I used to watch as a kid. It's the kind of thing that shoots great memories right back into my mind, and honestly just makes me want to cry. I feel bad for kids these days cause they don't have the great quality of cartoons and kids shows that I used to have when I was a youngster. I could probably go on forever about shows that I loved, but I'll spare you the close-to-never-ending list. Maybe I'll save it for another post.

I heard this tune a few months ago, and couldn't help but feel like I had heard it before. Turns out it's from this old cartoon that I watched as a kid that I had completely forgotten about. I don't think this was one of my favourites, but I definitely remember watching it often enough. I'm kinda curious to know if anyone else has heard of this one.

It was called the Barbapapas, and they were basically a family of blobs who could morph into any shape they wanted to. We used to watch it in French, but from what I understand, the show was originally Dutch and then translated into quite a few languages... although I can't seem to find any English episodes.

Anyways, take a listen to the theme song in French. Make it through to the end, and you're guaranteed a good laugh. Sound familiar to anyone?

Guessing Game

Let's see if anyone can guess how I got these beauties:

Thigh

Very blue and very swollen pinky

Arm

Torso

Yes, they hurt like hell. I have a heck of a lot more than these, but the majority are in areas that I would never post on the internet. The two on my thigh and the one on my arm are the most painful and are more like welts than just plain old bruises.
Ohhhh, the pain!!! :'(

So anyways, guess away!

Song of the Month

As I'm sure you've noticed, I go through song infatuations all the time.

This is the one that's doing it for me these days:

The local radio station that I listen to each morning on my drive in to work played this one day, and I couldn't help but feel like I'd heard it somewhere. Turns out that it's from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", which I only ever saw a part of, but kinda liked.

This song has just the right amount of rock and catchiness to it to get me obsessed with it for a while. There sure is some great 70s music out there...

In case you're interested, the band is 'The Sweet" and the song is called "Ballroom Blitz".

Just Wanted to Drop in and Say...

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I hope you all truly enjoy your holidays, and are able to spend lots of quality time with family and friends. And in case I don't get a chance to post before the end of December (and let's face it, the chances are pretty high that that'll be the case), Happy New Year!

Time for my Rant

Has anybody heard about the public transit strike that’s completely monopolized Ottawa in the past couple of weeks? Well if you haven’t, the time has come for you to hear about the crap that we’ve been going though.

The City of Ottawa has refused to label the public transit system as an “essential service”, hence allowing the workers to strike as often as they please. Want to know why they’ve decided to strike this time? Sure you do, so I’ll tell you. In past years, the bus/train operators were able to choose their own shifts. The drivers were given the ability to work whichever shift they wanted to, and this perk was provided in an effort to allow the transit employees to better balance their work/family lives. The City has now decided to take their scheduling abilities away, and they are not happy.

Although I understand that they are pissed about losing this convenience, the following are my arguments against the strike:

  • I can’t think of many jobs that allow workers to choose their own hours, so my suggestion is that the transit employees just deal with it, and be content that they were lucky enough to enjoy this perk for so many years.

  • If somebody is unhappy with an aspect of their job, they should get another job... that’s how the rest of us who aren’t protected under the wings of unions deal with our lives.

  • They’ve claimed that traffic has increased by 20% since this strike began, but I’ve got to tell you, it feels like a heck of a lot more than that. My morning commute (which used to be an hour long), has now stretched out to being an hour and a half long. In order for me not to end up stuck in traffic for over two hours, I have to get up half an hour earlier, and leave my house half an hour earlier than before. Those who know me know that I need my sleep. My sleep is very precious to me, so I’m pissed about this... big time.

  • When any amount of snow falls on the ground, all hell breaks loose. We’ve had two big snowfalls in the past couple of weeks, and my morning commute ended up being two and a half hours long one day, and over three and a half hours long the other. Are you fucking kidding me?

  • Being the end of December, not only do people need to get around to get their Christmas shopping done, but it’s freaking exam period in schools across the city! Seniors who depend on the buses to get to their medical appointments or do their groceries, and students who have finals to write, are being denied the ability to get around, all because the bus drivers are cranky because somebody else is going to be deciding their shifts from now on.

  • As a sat in traffic one morning, I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw an ambulance trying to get through the heaps of cars that were lined up bumper to bumper along the entire street in both directions. It took a total of 10 minutes for the ambulance to get through one block, because let’s face it, the cars have nowhere to go to make room for it to pass. How can these transit workers live with themselves knowing that they are likely going to be responsible for the unnecessary death or permanent injury of people who would otherwise be saved if it weren’t for their ridiculous actions?

This strike has affected absolutely everyone in the city, whether or not they personally used the public bus or train services in their daily routines. I find it so unfair that the entire city has to suffer to this extent because the bus drivers can’t suck it up and deal with this new change in their jobs.

Be grown-ups and stop making the rest of the city suffer because you’re too damn used to your old pampered ways!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

There was a winter storm warning in effect in Ottawa today, and it's being extended until end of day tomorrow.

On a normal day, I spend 2 hours travelling between work and home (1 hour in the morning to work, 1 hour in the evening back home). But of course, today was different. I spent a total of 4 and 1/2 hours travelling today (2 and 1/2 in the morning, and 2 hours in the evening). Just imagine how many other things I could have accomplished in those 4 and 1/2 hours... talk about a waste of life.

But oh well, those are the joys of winter. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day on the roads. For those who are going through the same crap, take care and drive safely out there.

Getting a Little Personal

I decided to take the day off today. Work's exhausting me and I needed a day to relax and enjoy myself.

The irritating sound of my alarm clock wasn't a part of my day today. I took my time getting out of bed, and when I finally decided to get up, I went downstairs and made some breakfast. I turned on the tv, and watched cartoons while I ate. I then jumped in the shower and got dressed.

What better way to relax then to go out and do a little bit of shopping?

That's exactly what I did (after stopping at Tim's for a coffee). I went to a few stores, looking for nothing in particular. I simply roamed around, trying on anything that I was interested in, and buying anything that I liked. When I finished with one block of stores, I drove on to the next, and I continued along my way.

As I was driving from one area to another, I remembered that I wanted to get a couple of new bras. And so I drove to the mall and went to the store that I buy that kind of stuff from. Whether or not you were interested in knowing, I wear a C cup. I've been a C cup for a few years now and I'm very pleased with my bra size. I've never wanted to be any smaller or any bigger; basically, I'm perfect as I am. I think so anyways.

So anyhow, I found a particular bra that I liked and went to the fitting room to try it on. Boy was I surprised when it didn't fit right. The girl who worked there suggested that I try on a D.

"Whoa, no! I don't think so. I've been a C for ages".

"Well it's possible that you've grown into a D cup now".

You're kidding me right? Anyways, I didn't believe her and figured the style of the bra was the problem. She insisted on bringing me the bra in a D cup, and I reluctantly tried it on.

It was a perfect fit. Damn it! How can I have I gotten bigger? I seriously hope that it was the particular style of the bra that was made smaller, because I don't want to permanently graduate to a D. That would mean that I wouldn't be the perfect bra size anymore, and that would really upset me. Anyways, I bought it.

All in all, my day off went perfectly. I bought lots of stuff and even got a little bit of my Christmas shopping done. Once I write up my Christmas shopping list, I may just have to take another day off and do all my shopping in one day. It truly beats having to do my shopping in the evenings when everything is crowded and people get aggressive and stupid.

Now I'm back home, all warm and cozy. Let the weekend begin!

UPDATE:

WIGSF was right, it was inconsiderate of me not to include pictures with this post, so here you go:

See how it throws my whole body out of proportion? Uhh, what will I do?!
